This innovative course is designed for:
We warmly welcome individuals of all cultures, backgrounds, abilities, sizes, shapes, and genders.
All forms of climbing including scrambling and mountaineering are also welcomed, as are all levels of experience.
Each week we will explore a different aspect of climbing together with complementary mindfulness practices and guided reflections.
Session 1 - introduction to the concept of climbing identity
Session 2 - individuality as climbers and our motivations.
Session 3 - anxiety & doing and being modes. Climbing specific anxieties including high place phenomenon.
Session 4 - social anxiety and how it affects us in climbing situations including risk analysis.
Session 5 - exploration of our values, attitudes and ethics as they relate to our climbing.
Session 6 - what are our influences and why?
Session 7 - fun and creativity in climbing
Session 8 - bringing it all together / next steps and closing.

The small print:
This is not a coaching or climbing performance course. We are not climbing instructors and this is not a substitute for any professional climbing training or instruction.
Participants must be 18 years old or over please.
Amanda is a Mindfulness Teacher (Breathworks) and a Psychiatrist. She is based in the Lake District in England and is passionate about making climbing as inclusive as possible. Amanda has been climbing since 2004 and despite often finding herself out of her comfort zone, she has a deep and enduring love of all things climbing.
Jeff is a climber, adventure writer and photographer. His book All and Nothing: Inside Free Soloing is a fascinating read that delves into the psychology of risk-taking viewed through the lens of free-solo rock climbing. His memoir Hangdog Days: Conflict, Change, and the Race for 5.14 about the formative years of sport climbing in America was shortlisted for the Boardman Tasker Prize in 2019. He is based in Honolulu, Hawaii.
